Default The Searing, by Talin04

Well, I've been playing Guild Wars a while now (287 hours of my life in fact lol) and I gotta say, I like it. I really enjoy Pre-searing and Ascalon, the entire autumn setting is artistically inspiring. Infact, that's what this thread's about. I was inspired by the beauty of the autumn of Ascalon to being writing a little series. I've been writing a while, and I'm trying to get my first book published...but that has nothing to do with this. SO, give me some feed-back as to how you like (or dislike) my stories. Well, here goes...

(Prolouge)

Charachters

Corin Malshatik- Hero of the story. He has abilities no one ever even thought possible of attaining. Hopefully he will be able to control them during the most difficulty journey in his life. Age:17

Syrandion Solven- A young and peppy wouldbe Ranger. She's stuck close to Corin ever since they met when 12 years ago in Piken Square. She's one hell of a shot and an even better person, although she can be a bit over-protective of Corin when it comes to other women. Syrandion has had a crush on Corin every since they met. Age:17

Devona: A strong leader, a fierce fighter, and a beautiful woman. She apprenticed Corin when he was 13 years old. Corin learned all of his swordsmanship from her. Corin see's her as an aunt or a God-mother.

Aidan: A sure-shot Ranger who never misses his target. He is Syrandions teacher and mentor. His dashing good looks underlay the fierce fighter inside of him.

Kol Capara: Ascalon's greatest blacksmith. His work rivals that of the dwarves of the Shiverpeaks. He crafts strong and beautiful weapons for only those he believes deserving. He may have a rough exterior, but inside is a fragile ego. Age:38

Ril Tyona: A young necromancer who spends most of his times in the Catacombs. Grenth only knows what he does or how he spends his time. His teacher is Necromancer Muune. She may a looker, but you'll be running when you see her with an army of dead behind her.

Necromancer Muune: Not to much is know about Muune. She and Ril spend alot of time together in the Catacombs training and learning the way of Grenth, their god. No one can really tell if she's a hero or just looking out for her and Ril's own interests.

...I remember it...I remember it all too well. Me and Syrandion were about to head back to Ascalon when it happened. Our home...our family...gone in a single flash. No one knew what happened, or how it happened...Now we live in this hell hole of an empire...The Charr come at us at every turn, and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. All we can do is fight, all we can do is hope, all we can do is remember. Remember the days before the Searing, before this hell. I remember, and I'll never forget those days...when I was happy...

Chapter 1- An Autumns Day

Syrandion wore that wonderful white tunic I adrmired her in so much. She was definatly a site to behold, and other men knew it. She was leaning against her normal oak tree, that really old one near the river where the Drakes hang around. I never understood why she liked it so much, but then again, woman usually were a mystery. I was in the water, in my grey tunic and pants, practicing some magic I learned in an old book. Apparently, when the God's created Tyria, there were Elementalists more powerful than any of the ones you see around today. The writings said they even helped shape Tyria. Well, I doubt that, but you never know.
I closed my eyes and thrust my hands to my side. I slowly raised them, feeling the water connect to my hands, as though it was an extension of my arm. For some reason, it was getting heavier, but I continued, ever determined. I thrust my hands to the left and threw a fair sized ball of water at the hill across the river. The ball smacked against the ground and left a nice little dent, a testimate to my first succesful water manipulation.
"Oh wow, you threw a big ball of water. How exciting..." said Syrandion, fooling with a Red Iris.
"Hey, cut me some slack. Like I said, these skills are difficult to learn." I said.
"If they're so difficult, why are you trying?"
"Because I'd like to learn this. Could you imagine? Devona would be the student and I'd be the teacher."
"Corin, the day you teach Devona is the day Melandru comes and takes me to her kingdom."
"Bah." I said, returning to my practice.
It was a beautiful fall day, I remember that much. Fall was always my favorite time in Ascalon. The leaves, grass, and sunlight all worked in harmony to create a natural painting, a masterpiece. I was always at peace here.
I closed my eyes again and attempted to raise a larger ball of water. I managed to lift the neccesary amount to where I needed it. That's when it all went wrong. The water got unbearably heavy, it was like holding up a hundred stones at once. I could hold it no longer, my hands relaxed and my arms dropped, and as they did, so did the water. When I opened my eyes, I could hear Syrandion laughing. I looked at my cloths, I was soaken wet.
"Ok, NOW I'm excited! Hahahaha!" she said, as she bounced down the hill towards me.
I mummbled under my breath in the Old Dialect, cursing at my inabilities.
"Ah clam down," said Syrandion,"you just need to rest a bit. I say we goto the farms, see if Liona is cooking any pork. Besides, it'd dry you off." She laughed a bit more.
"Yeah yeah, fine...lets just go." I said annoyed. Now that I think about it, I miss her laughing at my attempts to control the elements. I'd take that over an army of Charr any day.
We traveled past the Oak tree , down the hill, and to the Sale meeting river. It was a very rare case that anyone had to kill a Skale. They never even bothered a human unless you were near a nest or it was mating season. We continued past the river and onto the main road that lead from Acalon to the village. A large part of the path was ladden with large tree's all thier leaves colored a brilliant gold and orange. The colors played in harmony with the brigh sun creating a feeling and scene that transcended mortal senses. You had to be either very artistic or very sensitive to the world around you to appreciate the beauty of the the scene that lay before us. I always felt at peace during Autumn. The cool wind rushing against my face, the beauty of the forest, the essence of tranqulity you feel given to you by the spirits made living worth while.
We continued on to the fork in a road that lead to the Abbey and the village.
"I see smoke at Liona's. Come on, lets go!" Syrandion bounced off in the direction of Liona's place. I was about to race after her to pick her up and run towards Liona when I saw something flash in the corner of my eye.
I looked to my right, towads the path to Grenhills County, to see if something was there. If I hadn't known better, I could have sworn t was a Charr scout. If I was correct, that could mean disaster for everyone in the surrounding area and possibly a pre-emptive strike on Ascalon.
I thought of going to check out the shadow myself when I saw Devona giving directions to a merchant near the Abbey. I decided it best to inform her instead of going of and getting myself killed.
I walked over to Devona in time to catch the end of the onversation.
"Yes, just follow this road and you'll end up right at the Ascalonian gates." she said.
"Alright, thank you very much. Dwayna bless you." he said, as he walked off with his yak and cart in tow.
"Devona." I said.
Devona may have been my teacher, but she was quite beautiful. Her long, red yet sandy hair flowed elegantly over her head, while her beautiful but strong complextion showed she was not one to be taken advantage of.
"Yes Corin?" she said.
"Devona...you may want to take a look at Greenhills County." I said.
"May I ask why?"
"I think I may have seen a Charr scout."
Devona looked gravely at me.
"I'l see about it. For now, stay away from that area, do you understand?" she said seriously.
"Yes ma'am." I said.
With that, she walked off towards Greenhills.
I turned about and walked to the village to meet the with Syrandion. As I walked down the path leading towards Liona's house, I heard the cry of a Grawl far off. I was not entirely sure that I had heard what I heard, so I stood still and listened again. This time, it was distinct, I could clearly hearthe cry of Grawl being attacked. Ofcourse, this ment someone needed help.
I knew Syrandion was waiting for me, but someone needed help, someone's life might be on the line. I knew what I needed to do.

Ch.2- Liona

"Liona?" yelled Syrandion, as she walked into Liona's small and cozy home. Her home was a warm and pleasent place, filled with old relics, wicker furniture, and beautiful pictures given to her in her younger days, when she traveled all over Tyria.
Syrandion walked through the house and into the living room. The fire was roaring in its fireplace, with a kettle situated sbove it. Strangely, it was only boiling water. Syrandion smelled something good, but could not tell where it was exactly.
"I'm in here, dear." said Liona from the kitchen.
For a woman of 47, Liona looked as though she could be in her early 20's, thanks to an enchantment placed upon her. She never revealed where she found it.
Liona stood in the kitchen over some newly made pork turnovers. The smell wafted from the platter to Syrandion nose. She took a deep breath as her mouth watered.
Liona turned around to face Syrandion and her hungry face. She smiled, took a plate from a cabinet, placed a rather large turnover onto the plate, and handed it to her.
"Thank you Liona." she said, as she bounced to the table.
"You're quite welcome." she said. "Where's Corin today?"
Syrandion almost choked on the bite of turnover she took when Liona said this.
"Corin! Oh, damn him...every time...EVERY TIME! Why does he make me worry so much about him?" she ranted.
"Why are you so worried?" asked Liona.
"Because he could get hurt."
"He's old enough to help himself. Besides, didn't Devona teach him some monk skills for healing?"
"Well...yes...but"
Liona smiled at her in a way that said, I thought I was correct in my suspicions.
Syrandion turned away and ate her meal solemly, still worrying about what had happened to Corin...
She didn't know what she would do if anything happened to him...Well, she knew what she'd do to the person or thing that hurt him...

To be continued...later...hopefully...im going on holiday for a bit. I'll try to continue in Kayman...ADMINS PLEASE TRY TO FIND OUT WHY 3/4 OF MY STORY DISAPEARED SO THAT I NOW HAVE TO RE-WRITE THIS WHOLE THING!!!
